Neuromonitoring

The second focus of the laboratory lies in the neuromonitoring field that complements neural prostheses by the use of neural and muscular signals for diagnostic purposes to develop a patient specific therapy.

This field is a part of the new developing field of “theragnostics” that will merge diagnosis and therapy to the patient’s benefit. Biomedical microsystems are the first choice due to their size and complexity for an application in primary diagnosis as well as for secondary prevention. Especially with respect to an aging society with persons that actively participate in social and economical life we will have a strong need of technical devices that maintain the quality of life and the activities of daily living as long as possible. This research field encloses already established systems like electrode arrays for pre-surgical epilepsy monitoring implants against sleep apnea as well as new developments like devices for event driven neural modulation against incontinence, for example.
