I studied physics with emphasis on soft matter and laser physics, material science and meteorology at the University of Freiburg. In my diploma thesis, I worked on trapping and coherent imaging of small helical bacteria and studied their nano-mechanical dynamics.

For my PhD thesis, I constructed a super-resolution microscope (TIRF-SIM) to study the cell wall synthesis in rod-shaped bacteria.

Currently, I work on molecular friction processes, which I investigate using photonic force microscopy and Brownian dynamics simulations.
